Why I'm Running

It’s time we audit the Riverside County Auditor-Controller. On May 26, 2022, Riverside County’s Grand Jury identified several ongoing failures by the Auditor-Controller, putting Riverside County in “unnecessary financial risk.” I’m the auditor for a non-profit organization, and I serve on auditing committees for several government agencies – I’m well equipped to serve as Riverside County’s Auditor-Controller. I will restore trust, accountability, and ethical leadership when it’s most needed.

As a local auditor, mayor, and businessman, I’ve delivered results. I’ve fought fraud, waste, and abuse, and I always act with the highest integrity. I’m a taxpayer watchdog - I’ve balanced budgets, improved government efficiency, and increased transparency and accountability in local government.

As your Auditor-Controller, I will:

     · Restore accountability and ethical leadership

     · Stop wasteful spending

     · Be a taxpayer advocate

a · Return money due to the people

We need a change in the Auditor-Controller’s office, that’s why I’ve earned endorsements from local leaders and organizations across Riverside County, including:

     · All 28 mayors in Riverside County

     · All five members of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors

Please join the broad coalition of taxpayers, elected officials, businesspeople, labor, veterans, educators, public safety, healthcare workers, and seniors in voting for Ben J. Benoit for Auditor-Controller.

I respectfully ask for your vote.

ABOUT BEN

After Growing up in the Coachella Valley, Ben J. Benoit moved to the previously Unincorporated area of Wildomar in Southwest Riverside County in 2006.  A small business owner, Ben joined the Wildomar Chamber and Rotary club. He soon realized Southwest Riverside County is a wonderful community to call home.

Ben’s public service career began when he was asked to serve as a Planning Commissioner by a Wildomar City Council Member. Shortly after, Ben was encouraged by several community leaders to run for City Council.  In 2010 he won a seat on the City Council and, after being sworn in at his first meeting in 2011, he was asked to serve as Wildomar’s Mayor Pro Tem during his first year in office.

Benoit stepped up both locally and regionally, proudly serving as the City’s representative on the Riverside County Transportation Commission, Western Riverside County Regional Conservation Authority, Riverside County Habitat Conservation Agency, Western Regional Council of Governments, and the Southern California Association of Governments.  In 2012, with the retirement of Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge, Ben was unanimously elected by the Riverside County Mayors to represent all the Cities of Riverside County at the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

Over the past decade, with the support of his colleagues, Benoit has served as Mayor for his city four times, with his most recent term starting in 2022.  Benoit also served as the Chair of several boards and committees and he is currently serving as Chair of the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

On all the boards and commissions Ben has served on, he has made it a priority to serve on financial committees and audit committees. Ben recognized early on that ensuring the financial health and well-being of the taxpayer-supported entities he served on is the most effective way for those organizations to serve their communities.

Shortly after losing his father, Supervisor John J. Benoit, to cancer in late 2016, Ben took on a new job as the Vice-President of Public Affairs for the California Apartment Association.  The association is a statewide organization that he proudly represents in both Riverside and San Bernardino counties.  His tireless efforts working with the cities and counties of the Inland Empire on housing policy have garnered the respect of Supervisors, Mayors, and Councilmembers across both counties.
